Dr. Martin McIntyre is the founder of The Sports Injury Sports Medicine Clinic in Castlebar, County Mayo, Ireland. An expert in the areas of performance evaluation, health and fitness, exercise physiology, sports biomechanics and injury prevention and treatment.
Martin has impressive qualifications and experience in the specialized field of musculoskeletal injury treatment including completing PhD at Liverpool John Moores University ‘Hamstring Muscle Strength Assessment and the Association with Injury Risk in Gaelic Football’, MSc Sports Injury (Medicine); University of Sheffield, MSc Gaelic football; Institute of Technology Tralee, BSc(Hons) Sports Science; John Moores University, H.Dip Science and Football; John Moores University.
Martin has worked with Kerry GAA Senior, U21 and Minor Development squads since 1997, including Cavan GAA and Clare GAA Senior Footballers, Kerry Ladies Senior Football Team, Kilkenny City F.C. and Middlesborough F.C. and a number of club teams including An Gaeltacht, Dr Crokes. Martin extended his experience when employed by Institute of Technology, Tralee and managed the Sport, Health Performance Evaluation Centre (SHaPE) at the ITT.
Martin previously worked with the Roscommon GAA Senior Football Team (Connaught GAA Champions 2010), and also helped train the County’s first ever GAA Minor All Ireland winning team in 2006, alongside Fergal O‘Donnell.
Most recently Martin was involved with the Mayo GAA Senior Football Team (2012 – 2021), Mayo GAA Academy (2011 – present), managed the successful Under 16 Mayo squad to win the Ted Webb Cup in 2013 and 2014 Shield winners Under 17 competition.
He is a leading researcher and lecturer with a number of publications in the British Journal of Sports Medicine and Journal of Sports Sciences.
